The Newman Club and the Office of Campus Ministry would like to thank
the Kean Community for generously contributing to its Giving Tree last
December to benefit the Hayes Six, the first surviving sextuplets in
the state of New Jersey.
Two days after Christmas, Newman Club officers,
Rose-Marie Donahue, advisor, and Fr. Alex Santora, Catholic chaplain,
visited the hayes family i ntheir Morganville, N.J., home to present
them with a check for $500, gift certificates totaling $
300, toys for their older two sets of twins, and T-shirts for the
parents. The funds will be used to help the Hayes family build an addition
to their house, currently much too small to accommodate the 10
children
plus their dog and cat.
The
club would also like to offer a special thanks to the Office
of Health Services, which donated more than
$150. The Lenten-Easter collection for the Hayes donation boxes
have been placed around campus, and already a Kean trustee
has led the
way with a personal check for $200. Furthermore, the club expresses
its gratitude for those who contributed to the holiday food
drive, which netted 600 items of food donated to St. Joseph
Social Services
Center and the Coalition for the Homeless in Elizabeth.
Additional
donations for the Hayes Six may be made to Donahue in Townsend
Hall, Room 131
, or Fr. Santora in Downs Hall, Room 130. For more information,
